At Kamides Studio, I love seeing the imaginative ways my fabric designs come to life. Recently, one of my summer surf car patterns found a special home in a playful boys’ apron, crafted by the talented Etsy seller Laura Michelle, who specializes in creating adorable, child-friendly items. This apron was the perfect fit for a surf-themed playhouse, where a young boy enjoys his imaginative adventures.
Laura shared this beautiful sentiment inspired by Maria Montessori: “Play is the work of a child.” I couldn’t agree more! Imaginative play isn’t just fun—it’s essential for a child’s development. It nurtures creativity, problem-solving, and cooperation while teaching valuable life skills. When children have thoughtfully designed spaces and items like this surf car apron, their play becomes even more enriching.
Laura’s passion for enhancing playtime truly shines through in this apron. It’s not just a piece of clothing—it’s part of a whole world of fun and learning. Bowie’s surf shack play space, designed by Elizabeth Homen, captures the essence of a sun-soaked day by the ocean, with the surf car apron adding the perfect touch to his beachy adventures.
I’m thrilled to have played a part in this collaboration, knowing that my vintage surf car design is helping to inspire a child’s imagination. Seeing it come to life in such a special way brings me so much joy, reminding me of the beauty in creating products that make everyday moments more meaningful.
